Greetings Baby Boomers and generations thereafter!
My name is Nancy and I am indeed a baby boomer, originally from Southern California (a valley girl) – now living on the Oregon Coast. I love to cook for my husband, Bruce, and family and friends when I get the opportunity.
This site is mainly a site for my use… a space where I could log my recipes, but if you find it of use… FANTASTIC, glad to be of help!
I wish I had a photo of me cooking with my Easy Bake Oven here, but I don’t. Oh, how I remember making up cakes to share with – at that time in the early 60s – a family of five. I was 7 or 8. Oh my gosh, how funny! Everyone was so nice. Ohhh… Aaah tastes great Nancy! I seem to recall the taste yet…not so good! Oh, you have to check out this book! It is on my wishlist: Finding Betty Crocker: The Secret Life of America’s First Lady of Food
Factoid: Did you know who invented the EASY BAKE OVEN? Ronald Howes, Sr. He passed away in Feb. 2010. He was 83. “CINCINNATI, OH – Millions of young girls baked their first cookies, cupcakes, and brownies because of Ronald Howes Sr.
A lifelong inventor whose creations ranged from high-tech defense weaponry devices to electrostatic printers, Mr. Howes built an impressive resume that will always be best known for the enormously popular toy that he fathered a half-century ago: the Easy-Bake Oven.”…
Thanks, Mr. Howes, for my first chance at miniature cooking! And thanks to mom and dad for my 1960’s Christmas present, once again perpetuating that a woman’s place was indeed in the kitchen. Oh, well that is what they believed…and I have become a good cook because of their encouragement and enjoy baking and cooking even though I can get a bit overweight – from time to time. 🙁
