Sweet Tangy Sauce for Burgers

December 22, 2011 by Nancy

A Tangy Sweet and Sour Sauce recipe I got from an old high school boyfriends mother in the late 1960’s. I used to beg my mom to let me cook because I loved the taste of this sauce on our burgers! Quick and easy!

Ingredients:

  • 3 – 4 tsp. of butter or margarine
  • 1/2 medium onion – finely diced
  • 5 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 4 tbsp. light brown sugar
  • 5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp mustard (yellow or American style)
  • 1/2 tsp horse radish (optional)
  • 1 cup ketchup

Saute onion in butter until onions are soft (about 5 min). Add the 2 different sugars and stir until sugar is dissolved.  And the rest of the ingredients and stir until well blended.

Set precooked hamburger or turkey burger patties in the sauce and simmer for a few minutes
OR pour the sauce over the patties.

Thank you to Mrs. Hedlund of Thousand Oaks, CA – may she rest in peace.
